                    Almost a decade before the Mumbai attacks of November 2008 and a couple of years before the parliament attack of  13th   December, 2001, the Kanadahar haijack was a watershed in India’s fight against terrorism.Indian  airlines flight 814 took off from Kathmandu on December 24th,1999 and was taken over by terroists soon after entering Indian airspace.The aircraft ended up in Kanadahar after touching down in Amritsar,Lahor and Dubai.

       Date :- 24 December,1999  to  31 December,1999

    In 1999 at that time Indian prime minister  was Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.The three terrorists Maulana Masood,Omar Sheikh & Mushtaq ahmed Zarger were arrested for terrorist activities in Kashmir.

                          

 


       Indian airlines flight 814 commonly known as IC 814 was an Indian airlines airbus A 300 en route from Tribhuban international airport in Kathmandu  in Nepal to Indiragandhi international airport in Delhi,India on Friday 24 December,1999.         

                               The aircraft was piloted by 37-year-old captain Devi Sharan and first officer Rajinder Kumar,wih 58-year-old flight engineer Anil kumar jaggia.The haijckers finally forced the aircraft to land in Kanadahar, Afganistan which at the time was controlled by the Taliban.The haijacker released 27 of 176 passengers in Dubai.

                       

                


                    Indian PM Vajpayee had no idea about the haijacking for 100 minutes.For 55 minutes from 5.30pm to 6.25pm,when it seemed that the haijacked plane could land at Amritser in Punjab,India ,the CMG operated with out emergency.The aircraft leaving Amritser with out refulling.Indian foreign minister Jaswant Singh asked Pakistan for safe passage from some hosages(Women and Children) in Lahore.Pakistani authorized to refuel the aircraft on the condition it would leave their airspace immediately.The Indian government requsted the UAE if they could conduct a military raid on the aircraft.The request was blatanthly denied.With no assistance from Pakistan,the US and the UAE.

                               


                New delhi had identified that the five haijackers belonged to Harkat-us-mujhaideen,with links to Pakistan’s inter-services intelligrnce (ISI).

                      

              On December 26,Indian PM Vajpayee boldly told reporters that “My government will not bend before such a terror”.The haijackers demanded the release of Pakistani terror Maulana Masood Azhar(The secretary of terror group) along with 35 other millitants who were captured and incarcerated in Indian prisins in addition,a ransom of $200 million was demanded.

      Indian government after realesed the three terrorist Maulana masood,Omar sheikh & Mushtouq ahmed Zanger  are flown to Afganistan & released as free man.

                       


          Of the terrorists released,Omar sheikh went on t finance one of the hijackers of the 9/11 attack and the kidnap and murder of American journalist Daniel pearl.Maulana masood Azhar formed Jaish-e-mohammed,which carried out the dastardly Indian parliament on 2001, the 2016 attacks on the Indian airforce base in Pathankot and targeted CRPF jawans in 2019 in Pulwana.The combined death tool exceeded more than 200.
