Manudev, the king of Baisali, one
watched her performance in the city and wished to have her for himself.
Arrogant & inconsiderate about her feelings, he decided the he had to “own”
her. Amrapali , in the meantime, had a childhood love, by the name of
pushpakumar. They were deeply in love with each other & planned to wed each
other. Not wanting to lose Amrapali, Manudev killed Pushpakumar on the day of
their wedding.
Amrapali was made the Nagarbadhu in Baisali. She had the right to choose her
lover & and also choose the person with whom she wished to maintain
physical relation . sha also remained the count dancer of the Baisali
democracy.
Stories of
her beauty travelled to the ears of Bimbisara, king of the kingdom of Magadha.
He attacked Baisali & took refuse in Amrapali’s house. Bimbisara was a good
musician. Before long, Amrapali & Bimbisara fall in love. It was only a few
weeks later that Amrapali learned of Bimbisara’s true
identity. Angered , she asked him to call off the war & leave
immediately. Bimbisara readily agreed to
her wishes .He did not care thet it made him seem like a coeard in the eyes of
the resident of Baisali. In the next few months , Amrapali born him a son, who
she named Vimal Kondanna.
Ajatasatru was Bimbisara’s son by queen Chelna. He was a contemporary of
both Mahavira & Goutam Buddha. He imprisoned own father and forcefully took over the rule of Magadha from him. Bimbisara

Soon after his
father’s death, Ajatasatru was roaming the streets in
Triumph. He had hear much about Amrapali & wished to have an audience with
her. Ajatasatru invaded Baisali as he too wanted to destroy the republic &
have Amrapali by force. During Magadha & Baisali war Ajatasatru seriously
injured with the force of the circumstances. Amrapali treated the injuries and
cured . During the nursing, Ajatasatru also
fall in love with her.
This news
speared to the people of Baisali , the furious people beat her and imprisoned.
The imprisioned news come towards to Ajatasatru and become very furious about
the Baisali’s people behavior &
wanted her to be free. In the way of making her free. In the way of making her
free, he ravaged the city and curely treated the people of Baisali . Amrapali
felt very sad about these unwanted situations and finally rejected the love of
Ajatashatru.
Lord Buddha had known the
story of Amrapali from his usual visitor of Vaishali. One day Buddha visited Vaishali along with his disciples
.The arrival of lord Buddha received to the dancer and meet him a garden. Then
she invited lord Buddha to home to serve food. Buddha accepted her invitation and went to the mango grove which belonged to the dancer. There she
impressed the preachers of lord Buddha and had known about the salvation of life. She was ashamed about
her past life and wanted to lead a fresh lease of life. Then she became
buddhist bhikkus and gifted the mango grove for the Buddha sanga.
